Elle the Belles' Beauty Tips...(&winners!)

Well dolls, summer is long gone & fall is almost over. The seasons are changing fast, & I for one love it. Who else is with me?

Anyone?

Let me indulge in saying that I for one had been longing for my favorite slouchy boots (best investment ever- I suggest you jump on it), an oversized cardigan & a hand-knit scarf. Not to mention my excitement for a delicious carb-overload thanksgiving with my favorites. Yeah, color me excited.
Of course, fall also means toning it down some. The bright colors of summer don't exactly fit in the working world. Fall also means the cold is coming- which totally sucks, & my skin is not pleased. As soon as the temperature starts dropping, my skin starts going nuts & flaking out on me. So for me, fall means fall-ing into an easier beauty routine. After all, with hectic schedules we need something simple. Trust me, I know how tempting it is to jump out of bed in sweats & a messy bun and book it to class (or work if your boss is so kind) - I'm guilty of having done it plenty.

I'm going to share with you my beauty routine, to help inspire you to always go out into the world fresh faced.

But before we even think of getting into makeup, your face has to be ready. You need to start with a fresh canvas. I couldn't stress enough how important it is to at least cleanse and moisturize.
That being said, an ideal beauty routine starts with a good makeup remover, cleanser, toner, & moisturizer. (plus a primer for protection)
Let me explain…

The skin on your face is pretty delicate. You don't want to aggravate it (at the risk of wrinkles or breakouts) with a harsh cleanser. But with the intense makeup that we use these days (hello waterproof) sometimes it seems like a strong cleanser is the only thing that will do the trick. My tip?

Remove, Clense, Tone, Replenish, Protect.

(In that order.)

Sound like a lot? I know it seems daunting- but it's better to start taking care of your skin early. If you're looking for something to help you in a pinch, you might want to look into some all in one options. The Vitamin E wipes from the Body Shop are my go-to, I always keep them in my purse.

Normally I encourage you to remove your makeup at night, but if you slip up & sleep in it- don't worry. Shit happens. Grab some Clinique Take the Day Off & remove day-old makeup.
Once your makeup is removed, it's time to cleanse. It's important to use a cleanser that fit's your skin.

For normal skin, use baby shampoo (sounds weird, but it works so well)
For sensitive skin, use aloe facial cleanser (as pictured- in a travel bottle)
For problem skin, use tea tree oil facial cleanser
The steps are pretty self explanatory, but please do remember to be gentle.

Another important thing is to get yourself a nice scrub. or DIY one! You're going to need to get rid of the dead skin tends to buildup. I recommend you give yourself a nice scrub at least once a week, & a good mask at least every 2 weeks.
Go ahead & feel cute while you do it too! (Pst - Stay tuned for a mask product review coming soon!)

After cleansing, a good toner will help remove anything that's left behind.
I used to use a Mary Kay toner, but my puppy decided that it wasn't the right brand for me, & she ate it.
Now I'm using Tea Tree toner, which helps keep my skin clear.
(Tea tree is an absolute miracle- I swear.)
Now that your face is so fresh & so clean, We need to moisturize.
I have combination dry/freak/senstive skin, so my beauty routine is an acquired mix. But...
For oily skin I recommend something mattifying, perhaps with a little seaweed?
for problem skin & breakout prone, I recommend you stick with a tea tree oil line.
If you have dry skin the Aveeno line or the Body Shop's Vitamin E line is perfect.
& for my gals with sensitive skin, Aloe is your best friend.
& don't forget about your eyes! I have dark circles & use Benefit's 'It's Potent!'. It's worked absolute wonders for me.

After your moisturizer has settled, & before you put your makeup on, use your primer.
Not only will a primer smooth everything out so your makeup stays on twice as long, but it creates a barrier between your face & makeup- protecting your skin from the harsh chemicals. My fav? The Body Shops' Vitamin C Boost. The vitamin C does wonders for your skin (evens tone, anti-aging, brightening) and it leaves skin feeling super silky.
When using primer, remember that a little goes a long way.

Skin routines do take a little getting used to- especially if you haven't previously used anything. But trust me, not only will it pay off in the long run, but you'll start to notice a BIG change in your skin.
& now that your skin is taken care of, we can focus on the makeup. Stay tuned for part deux...
